RIASEC Career Interest Assessment
Holland Codes for career fit and job satisfaction
RIASEC (Holland Codes) measures career interests across six domains: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. It predicts job satisfaction and long-term fit.
The Six Domains
- Realistic - Hands-on work with tools, machines, animals, or nature
- Investigative - Research, analysis, problem-solving, science
- Artistic - Creative expression, design, writing, performing
- Social - Helping, teaching, coaching, healthcare
- Enterprising - Leadership, persuasion, sales, entrepreneurship
- Conventional - Organization, data management, administration, detail work
Job Fit Analysis
Each job has a RIASEC profile. For example, software engineers typically score high in Investigative and Conventional. Salespeople score high in Enterprising and Social. Matching candidate interests to job profiles predicts satisfaction.
Career Counseling
RIASEC helps candidates understand their natural interests. If someone scores high in Artistic but works in a Conventional role, they may feel unfulfilled. Use RIASEC for career development conversations and internal mobility.
Most people have a two or three-letter Holland Code (e.g., RIA or SEC) representing their dominant interests.
